About Dr Stuart Grey

Current Role

I am a Senior Lecturer in Engineering Systems Design at the University of Glasgow, working across mechanical and aerospace engineering disciplines. My focus is on systems engineering and the future of engineering skills.

I also serve as an external examiner at King's College London and was formerly an external examiner at the University of Manchester.

Student Voice AI

I founded Student Voice AI, a platform that supports UK Higher Education institutions and sector bodies through AI-powered text analysis of student feedback. The platform provides:

  • Automated, consistent analysis of student comments
  • Multi-dimensional categorisation and sentence-level analysis
  • Precise sentiment evaluation
  • Demographic and historical insights
  • Sector benchmarking and tailored reports

Student Voice AI is trusted by sector bodies and leading universities across the UK.

Teaching

I systematically improve teaching, learning, and the student experience. I have received multiple teaching award nominations:

  • 2025 — University of Glasgow Student Teaching Awards — Best College Teacher in Science & Engineering
  • 2024 — University of Glasgow Student Teaching Awards — Best College Teacher in Science & Engineering
  • 2019 — University of Strathclyde Teaching Excellence Awards — Most Innovative
  • 2018 — University of Strathclyde Teaching Excellence Awards
  • 2015 — UCL Student Choice Teaching Awards — Outstanding Researcher Development
  • 2014 — UCL Student Choice Teaching Awards — Outstanding Teaching

Research

My research interests include precise orbit determination, spacecraft surface force modelling, and applying machine learning techniques to enhance teaching practices. View my publications for a full list of research outputs.

Public Engagement

I actively participate in public lectures and events, with a focus on engaging those traditionally under-represented in engineering. I have appeared on BBC television, podcasts, and at events including the Royal Institution. See my public engagement activities for more.
